Snow Storm Software has updated (12/19/98) the Voyager VRML viewer to version 1.2, which has compatibility improvements, performance improvements, and several bug fixes. EscapeGL is at version 2.2 (7/30/98). You can find both on their Updates page. They are also requesting lists of your favorite VRML models and sites for inclusion in the Snow Storm Software Gallery.
Novell has released (12/18/98) a patch for Netware Requester for OS/2 version 2.12.
Martin Hadam reports that version 1.30b of the game Drilling Billy has been released (12/10/98). BMT Micro has this great little game available for only $20.
Create Shadows of the Most Recently Used Files is a mimic of the Windows 95 Documents menu. It consists of a generic MakeShadow Rexx script and a set of sample application batch files (Most Recently Used Files and Files Used Today). It's on version 0.10 (12/8/98).
RxExtras is a set of functions to enhance OS/2's REXX programming language, and is accompanied by additional functions to be used by other PM Rexx-based software (VisPro/Rexx and VX-Rexx, among others). Some of the functions provided by RxExtras can be accomplished by various other means using "pure" OS/2 REXX code, but RxExtras provides an easier interface and more efficient processing. The current (12/8/98) release is 1g.

Daniel Steiner let me know that his file system driver for reading Win95 long file names (i.e. LONGFI~1.TXT should be LongFileName.txt), VFAT-OS2, has been updated (12/4/98) to version 0.05. New in this release: supports volume label, changing from FAT to VFAT filesystem type at runtime, corrected a memory leak problem in the IFS, early read-only support for NTFS file system.
There is a package on hobbes (11/29/98) for creating bootable OS/2 CD's. It contains all of the necessary drivers, as well as documentation on how to do it.
SiNstart is a starter pack (11/25/98) to run the game SiN using Win32-OS2.

An OS/2 port of the "Not Quite C" compiler v1.0b1 for the new LEGO MINDSTORMS has been released (11/15/98); it is used to compile .NQC applications for use with the LEGO MINDSTORMS RCX.
An OS/2 port of Mutt has been released (11/14/98); it is a powerful Internet mail reader/editor. It supports unix-style (UUPC/Ache) and UUPC/Ext mailboxes, threads, MIME encoding/decoding (include utf-8), pgp 2.x, and setting up viewers for different content-types.
Frank Carlos reports on the latest stuff from alphaWorks: Dynamic XML for Java is a processor to seamlessly embed Java with XML. RDF for XML is a Java implementation of the RDF specification for creating technologies that search for data and describe, categorize, rate, and otherwise manipulate the data. P3P parser is a P3P protocol parser and constructor written in 100% pure Java. The package contains classes and methods for parsing, generating, manipulating and evaluating P3P proposals and responses. It also contains a parser and evaluator for "A P3P Preference Exchange Language" (APPEL). RuleBasedNumberFormat provides an internationalizable way of writing out numeric values in words. StringSearch provides an internationally compliant way of searching strings.
Martin Hadam reports MD+F Text Effects 3D (OpenGL) is available now for OS/2 Warp. This product must be registered before it becomes fully enabled. It is free for registered users of SX Paint 2.
Version 1.01 of the HideWindow add-on for WatchCat has been released. It hides windows of programs that have crashed in the exitlist. This is particularly useful for old versions of Netscape Navigator 2.02, since the resulting crashed window covers most of your screen. From WarpCast.

From WarpCast: MainActor 2.06 is now (10/23/98) in open beta. It features a complete new program, called MainActor/2 Sequencer, a timeline based full-featured video sequencer with hundreds of video transitions, video effects and video paths. Also available are a patch for display problems, and a Motion JPEG codec (10/26/98).
Modular Dreams has released (10/19/98) Synapse, "a collection of networking software designed to extend the built-in TCP/IP features of your computer." It includes a port redirector, and a port-independent file transfer.
Micq is a text-based ICQ client, ported to OS/2 from Linux. It has just been updated (10/9/98), and is available for download from Hobbes.
SouthSide Software has released (10/7/98) PMINews 2.0. This is a free upgrade to owners of PMINews 1.x.

X-File version 1.4 has been released (9/11/98). X-File replaces the standard tiny OS/2 "open/save as" file dialogs with a full height dialog (user customizable) and adds many enhancements such as drive buttons, file and directory histories, launcher for file and directory viewers/managers, and a frequently used directories list.
MP3PM v0.60 (non preview), is now (9/10/98) available. MP3PM is a GUI front end for creating MP3 audio files. New in this version: support for NTenc, BladeEnc, ToMPG; ID3 TAG editor; and UI changes. From WarpCast.

JMA Software Technologies has released (7/28/98) WebNavigator 2.1 beta 1. WebNavigator utilizes the WebExplorer API, but has some features of its own.
IBM has released (7/16/98) a driver for AceCAD digitizer tablets on the OS2DDPak Online.
There is now (7/7/98) a Year 2000 fix for Warp 4's SuperVGA driver. From WarpCast.
CD to MP3 PM will create MP3 files from CDs, and also write out ID3 tags. Other programs you might need include Leech (also on Hobbes, as leech120.zip), for copying CD tracks, and ToMPG (which you must convert with the Win32OS2 converter), for encoding the MP3s from WAVs.
New on Hobbes (6/29/98): HPFS386 drivers (HPFS386.ZIP) - Appears to be the IFS drivers for HPFS386 from Warp Server. These are newer than the ones posted previously (end of last year) under the same name.
VisualNetRexx Alpha Release 3 has been released (6/27/98). VisualNetRexx is an Integrated Development Environment for IBM's NetRexx Language, which is a dialect of Rexx compiling to Java bytecode. Thus Java applets, applications and servlets may be written, using the familiar and human-oriented syntax of Rexx, in a graphically managed environment. Included in the alpha release are an editor, interface to the NetRexx compiler and project, category and package tree views for grouping of source code. Additional tools such as a Class Designer, GUI Layout tool, Debugger and Hierarchy Browser are in the wings.
From WarpCast: "Cadsoft has released a free key for use with the well known EAGLE layout software." Apart from some minor limitiations, the EAGLE Light Edition can do anything the Professional Edition can do.

Lotus has made available (6/24/98) for download the Mobile Screen Show Player, which allows you to show Freelance Graphics presentations without having Freelance installed on your computer. Thanks to Loren Bandiera for passing it on.
Loren Bandiera and dink report that Netscape Navigator 2.02 has been refreshed (6/19/98) to service level 8. It works with Java 1.1.4 and 1.1.6, as well as the obsolete Java 1.02, although it no longer ships with it. It is available from Software Choice. The Plugin Pak has not changed since the 1/29 release.
Kai Schmidt has released (6/15/98) version 0.995 of the free, NetRexx written Internet tool SurfCompanion, which features www-server hosting, a web-agent, an offline-reader, and a search engine.
A 32-bit OS/2 port of the University of Michigan's LDAP command line tools have been uploaded (6/5/98) to Hobbes. These tools support the LDAP v3 standard. A PM version is in development, and will be available soon. From WarpCast.

An alternative to Boot Manager, KBootManager, has been updated (5/26/98) to version 0.36.5 beta. It's currently in beta, and "has pretty much all the features of the IBM BM, but will also allow you to boot extended partitions as primary ones."
TunnelWars is a new side-scrolling game that demonstrates a massively multi-threaded game running on OS/2. FULL source code is also available.
Martin Hadam reports that the drivers for ELSA's Winnner2000/Office are now (5/12/98) out of beta, as is VideoIn. MainActor is also free to owners of this card.
James Mckenzie reports that the source code to LoraBBS has been released (5/12/98) under the GNU license. You can find more information, and the download, at MaccaSoft.
Modular Dreams has released MD+F Binary News Blitter version 1.4, "a utility which automatically downloads pictures (or other binary files) from usenet. The MSRP for MD+F Blitter is $30.00 and the product's license allows you to use it on any platform for which it is available." From WarpCast.
IBM has updated (5/5/98) the drivers for several Trident video cards, available on the OS/2 DDPak.
The two efforts working on the Doom port have joined, and the DIVE and XFreeOS2 versions are now distributed together. It was recently updated to version 0.6, which now supports sound and full-screen DIVE.
The multi-featured Internet suite, Internet Adventurer, has been updated (5/5/98) to version 1.50. "This version is nothing short of screaming fast!!! Performance has been improved significantly in the news/email part, and all known bugs have been fixed. Also, multipart attachments are now supported, and viewing attachments is now easier than ever."
GoServe, the IBM EWS web and gopher server written by Mike Cowlishaw, was recently (4/24/98) updated to version 2.52. New in this version: "some minor tweaks to allow handling of HTTP/1.1 clients better." From WarpCast.

Modular Dreams has released SX Paint 2 v1.4, which is available for download from their website. SX Paint 2 is an image processing and painting tool, from the makers of the highly regarded ColorWorks plugins. New special effects and gradients have been added (including a "Lens Flare" feature), as well as a new tool that creates random-dot 3d pictures. From WarpCast.

Martin Hadam reports that "the former developers and owners of BocaSoft's Wipeout screensaver have placed the program itself and the source code into the public domain." You can download the program from Hobbes; the source code is expected soon. If you are having trouble installing this, you need to be sure that you label the disks as "WIPEOUT20 1" and "WIPEOUT20 2" There is also an update on Hobbes to version 2.052, which apparently is needed for Warp 4.
Mixomat version 2.00 has been released (3/16/98). The new interface to this Sound Blaster mixer is very nice, and it includes a plugin for Netscape Navigator, as well as a REXX interface. From WarpCast.
devPad, a NetRexx and Java development environment, was recently (3/12/98) updated to version 0.70.
There is now (3/12/98) a free DIVE toolkit available, which contains the header and lib necessary to use DIVE with EMX. It can be downloaded from Hobbes. From WarpCast.
The hardware detection/system information tool called PMWhy/2 was updated (3/9/98) to version 0.95.
Tom Harding, of Practice Corporation, wrote in to announce the release of QuickMotion 2.0, now with QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) playback. Included is the QuickFlick Netscape plugin, for all those web sites with QuickTime content. This has many OS/2-specific features, not available in the Windows plugin. It is available for online purchase for $34.95, or $19.95 to upgrade from version 1.x. There is also a demo available, be sure to check it out!
Loren Bandiera sends news of a new program called DupeFind. This is supposed to be "The Worlds Fastest Duplicate File Finder for OS/2 Warp."
Mirabilis has released a minor update to the Java version (0.981a beta) of ICQ. It requires Java 1.1, and is reported to work quite well in OS/2. You can download it from Mirabilis. If you like it, be sure to let Mirabilis know you are using it with OS/2! From WarpCast.
New on hobbes (1/14/98): Toronto Virtual File System v2.11 (tvfs211.exe) - The TVFS "allows symbolic links under OS/2 like UNIX filesystems do. Many IBM developers especially find this useful, as include files and stuff for their development projects can really be spread over numerous local and network drives, with the virtual filesystem making them all appear to be in the same directory." New on hobbes (1/12/98): Blowfish version 1.63 (bfish163.zip) - Freeware implementation of Bruce Schneier's Blowfish algorithm, for file encryption. Ryan Dill points out there is also a GUI front-end, BlowFish Rapid Application Use, which was recently (12/30/97) updated to version 1.1.
Ryan Dill let me know that Smalled 2.00 has been released. The updated version of this editor has many new features, and can be found on hobbes and LEO as smled200.zip.
New on Hobbes (12/28/97): OS/2 utilities for Netware (NW411OS2.ZIP) - all of these are available with Netware, except NWADMIN and REMOCON (RConsole). The included NWAdmin is a port of the Netware 4.10 version, and is very slow.
New on Hobbes (12/27/97): AOL Instant Messenger for Java (aimjava2.zip) - Repackaged to work properly under OS/2.
New on Hobbes (12/22/97): PNG plugin for Netscape (npgpng09.zip) - The PNG graphics format is intended to replace GIF and JPG as the standard in Internet graphics.
Eugen Kuleshov wrote in to let me know that OpenChat/2 version 1.07, the "best OS/2 PM irc client," has been released. There are many new features and bugfixes, check out the Open Chat web site.

Loren Bandiera passed on the news that IBM has discontinued the Software Installer for OS/2, and released it to the public "as-is." This is the installer used by numerous OS/2 programs. You can find it on the Software Installer page.
Loren Bandiera passed on news of a new Java game: "JBill 1.1 is now available from here. In this game based on the classic XBill, kill all the little men trying to install Wingdows on your computers! Requires Java 1.02 or 1.1. Works as an applet or application."
Relish v2.23 is now available from Sundial Systems. Version 2.23 is a maintenance release, necessary for use with RelishWeb. In general, the features of this version are identical to earlier releases within the 2.2 series - the primary differences are a small number of bug fixes and other

New on LEO (11/3/97): NTFS utilities (ntfs_003.zip) - A collection of utilities for working with NTFS partitions. An IFS driver is still not included, but the utilities have been updated, and the author indicates there may be an IFS driver in the future if there is demand for one.
Version 2.0 beta of the SVGA-Kit and VESA-EMX libraries now support DIVE. This is useful primarily for developers, although the binaries are available for the non-beta version, if you have a program that uses these libraries. New on hobbes (11/1/97): JShifter/2 version 1.62 (jshif162.zip) - Freeware IBM EWS that turns the NumLock on. According to the readme, it may be incorporated into a future FixPak.
WingSoft now (10/30/97) has a 30-day demo of WingEditor for NetRexx. This is an early release, and may have a few limitations and bugs. WingEditor is a Java-based development environment, and requires Java 1.1, and NetRexx 1.21.
The gold release of OpenGL 1.1 has been released (10/2/97). Interested developers and users can download it from the OpenGL developer FTP site. With any luck, we'll get some nice OS/2 games using this (Quake II, maybe??). There are now two updates, one to glut.dll (10/6/97), and one to libaux.dll (10/21/97).
Klaus J.O. Nielsen would like everyone to try his new program, Java Chatter, which lets you chat with others over the Internet. It was written with Java 1.1 for OS/2, and requires that level of Java. He also has a Java ID3-tageditor, for editing the ID3 fields in MP3 files.
VRML/2 has been updated to version 1.04. You can download it from the VRML/2 home page. VRML/2 is a VRML 1.1 viewer that uses OpenGL 1.0. Version 1.04 is an update to the previous 1.02 release, and promises to be much faster, and have better memory management. The next version is expected to use OpenGL 1.1.
Jouko Jylanki sends news of an update to the game Cosmic Defender. It is still in early development, but looks promising. Version 0.2b (10/16/97) fixes the problem with 0.2 requiring 256 colors (yuck!). You can download it from the Cosmic Defender web site.
Mount Baker Software has released Money Tree (10/14/97). You can download it "in a limited transaction version which can be unlocked by purchasing a registration ID. Money Tree is available for a suggested Retail Price of US$69.95 exclusively from BMT Micro and their worldwide affiliates." From WarpCast.
The freeware Animated Mouse Pointer for OS/2 was recently updated (10/9/97) to version 1.01. It fixes many of the small bugs that were in the original release. You can get more information, or download it, from here.
Visix now has a native OS/2 version of their Java development tool, Vibe. To find out more, visit the Visix web site. Vibe has the most cross-platform support I have seen so far for Java tools.
Gary L. Robinson, author of such programs as Desktop Wizard and CommandHere, let me know that he released two new shareware programs on September 12th. ZipZap "makes handling ZIP files easier," and Stats "makes it easier to see the data for your files, folders, and directory trees in easy to use popup dialog boxes."
