There is now (12/24/2000) a generic WinOS2 driver that should work with any sound card. Wave In, Wave Out, and MIDI playback are all working, and MIDI In support is being worked on. An older (12/9/98) version based on the same IBM DDK code can be found at Hobbes.

XOSL is a nice-looking, free boot manager. It is released with the source under the GPL, and reportedly works well with OS/2. Version 1.1.5 has been released (12/23/2000).

Fixpak 2 for IBM's VisualAge C++ 3.6.5 is now (12/21/2000) available. Fixpak 1 for version 4.0 is also available (3/29/99). Note that it's very large, but only the first file is really needed. The second one contains updates to samples and some other non-essential parts of the package.

Filip Molcan reports that OS/2.cz has a collection of 800 high resolution icons.

IBM has released (12/11/2000) fixpak IP08532 for Warp Server.

RxSem version 1.05 has been released (12/10/2000). RxSem is a DLL that provides your REXX scripts with access to the OS/2 semaphore APIs. Get the latest version from Hobbes.

X-Chat version 1.6.1 has been ported (12/8/2000) to XFree86/OS2. It is an IRC program, that requires Gnome/Gtk to work. From WarpCast.

InstallShield version 4 has been released. The "Multi-Platform Edition" was co-developed with IBM, and supports OS/2. It presumably requires Java. Thanks to Gregory L. Marx for the news.

LSI Logic (Symbios) has updated the drivers for their SYM8XX (8/14/2000) and SYM896 chipsets, including their U2/U3 drivers (12/6/2000). Thanks to Martin Hadam for the news.

Program Commander/2 version 2.20 has been released (12/1/2000). PC/2 is a WPS enhancement / replacement that allows you to manage your applications and Desktop more easily. From a configurable Popup Menu you can not only launch programs, but also specify details like their size&position on a Virtual Desktop, the Hotkey used to switch to or start them, their Priority, their Environent (or DOS Settings for DOS applications) or when they should be invoked by a Scheduler. SafeFire PPP version 1.0 Fix 1 has been released (11/27/2000). It supports PPP over Ethernet, callback, dial-on-demand, modular design, packet filters, NAT (Network Address Translation), CCP (Compression Control Protocol), PAP (Password Autentication Protocol), CHAP (Challenge Authentication Protocol), MS-CHAP (Microsoft extension for CHAP), and REXX APIs. JSANE, the Java frontend for the scanner program SANE, has been updated (11/11/2000) to version 0.21. There is also another front end called FESane, version 0.2, available (11/12/2000).

TEAM OS/2 Russia has released (11/9/2000) ModLogAn 0.5.6, a modular logfile analyzer that combines speed with flexibility. Thanks to Eugene Kazarinov for the news.

Platon Fomichev reports there is a package called win32inst on Hobbes (11/8/2000), which contains a 32-bit installer for Win32 programs. This can help install Win32 programs that come with a 16-bit installer, using Odin.

Retrocade alpha 6 is now (11/7/2000) available. Retrocade is a multi-arcade game emulator, similar to MAME. It supports fewer games than MAME does (about 120 or so) but the emulation cores were designed for speed, and it has a nice GUI. It now features full screen graphics using MGL.

Frank Berke reports that Crown of Might version 1.06 has been released (11/5/2000). This is a strategy game like the classic "Defender of the crown". There is now a full version available that allows you to raid castles, hold tournaments, rescue maidens, and more.

Emacs version 20.6 has been ported (11/4/2000) to OS/2. It now has clipboard support. This is the venerable Unix text editor, that has numerous other functions built in.

xBaseJ, an xBase database engine written entirely in Java, has been updated (11/3/2000) to version 1.9.A.

WarpCD version 0.2.0 has been released (10/30/2000). This is a CD-player with WinAmp skin support. Thanks to Chris Wohlgemuth for the news.

Templeton 3.80 has been released (10/29/2000). It contains a powerful World Wide Web mirroring and mapping tool, and a very configurable HTML syntax checker. Using Templeton, you can bring remote web pages to your local hard drive for fast, convenient, reliable, off-line use. Mirrored HTML documents include working links, images, and sounds. Templeton is very configurable; it can generate web site maps, mailing lists, server lists, and much more. It includes Fern, which can check HTML syntax for missing tags, malformed tags, browser compatability issues, accessability issues, and much more. It now uses EMX.

VyperHelp has been updated (10/23/2000) to version 1.11. VyperHelp is a visual outliner, editor and converter for creating online help for OS/2-based systems. It generates IPF files, which can be compiled into OS/2-based HLP and INF files. Thanks to Mat Kramer for the news.

Java Pilot Desktop, a Java program for interfacing with the PalmPilot, has been updated (10/10/2000) to version 0.951. It includes an addressbook, todo list, memo pad, expense management, and a datebook.

sockd version 1.1 has been released (8/2/2000). This is a very simple SOCKS server for OS/2 which supports version 4 of the SOCKS protocol. iHPFS version 1.29 has been released (7/28/2000). iHPFS is a read-only HPFS driver for DOS. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.

NOCTIS version 1.00 has been released (7/26/2000). This is a program for astronomical data processing. Joern Schlichting has released (7/13/2000) GebtagPM version 2.48, a birthday reminder program. There are also some other small OS/2 applications here.

RoboticsMessenger/2 version 1.10 has been released (7/7/2000). RoboticsMessenger/2 is a PM Program for controlling the USRobotics Message Modems (all models). It includes a fax viewer, and raw G3 to Tiff and GSM to WAV converters.

Another multi-player (client/server), French, Java Bomberman game has been released (7/6/2000). This one has some pretty nice graphics.

John Rodriguez reports that the WinCast TV driver has been updated (6/30/2000) to version 1.42B, and now includes DiveTV, which uses hardware image scaling.

Command Line Clipboard Access version 1.12 has been released. This allows you to access the OS/2 clipboard from the command line in a full screen or windowed OS/2 session.

kTaskMgr, a tool for displaying information about processes, threads, executable modules, open files, shared memory, semaphores, and memory map, and killing processes is now (6/19/2000) on version 0.3. From WarpCast.

LodeRunner for OS/2 has been updated (6/18/2000) to version 1.2b2.

V2GB is a new (6/15/2000) OS/2 virtual device driver, for users who have trouble running legacy DOS and Windows programs when disks are very large. V2GB limits the amount of free space returned to 2GB. No files are created to use up the space; it's just the reporting that is changed. From WarpCast.

Network Trace version 1.1 has been released (6/9/2000). Network Trace is the only network packet capture software commercially available today for the OS/2 platform. From WarpCast.

ThermoProtect is another hardware monitor for motherboards that have LM78, LM79, and Winbond chips. Version 1.34 has been released (5/23/2000). It has a GUI interface via Sysbar/2 and its Pipe Monitor, and a configuration tool.

Wayne Swanson has updated (5/16/2000) DeskTop Backup. This is a simple tool that works with InfoZip's Zip and Unzipsfx to build a self-extracting zipfile containing your essential desktop and other configuration information. Saving several distinctive backup setups to be performed on demand or automatically is easily handled by DTB. "AutoStart" backups are simple point and click setups that update your situation automatically with just a mouse click. You can also save multiple archive setups and recall them at will as well as setting the scheduler to run automatically at startup to archive by "days between archives" or "day of the week".

SecureDesktop version 1.04 has been released (5/14/2000). SecureDesktop is a security system that allows serial multiuser Desktops on one machine. Each Desktop is protected by UserID and password. Each user has also his own home-directory. The future plans are: file access controls; distributed WPS; trusted applications; modules for administering database (msql), StarOffice, Communicator 4.61, NS 2.02, etc. from SecureDesktop; and full WPS integration. A six month evaluation version of SecureEntry build 240 is now (5/10/2000) available. SecureEntry/2 is an OS/2 solution to implement role based security and personalization policies, granting a safe and protected working environment to access corporate applications. CFM TWAIN version 5.20 is now available. This software adds support for many scanners to OS/2, in programs like PMView.

The source to the OS/2 port of Quake is now (4/29/2000) available from NetLabs. Anyone want to update this to work with Glide and/or MGL?

GammaTech has released (4/22/2000) an update to GTIRC, bringing to version 3.06. A new version of OS2Bot, the IRC bot for OS/2, is available as well. There is also an update (1/15/99) to GammaTech Utilities, bringing it to version 4.02. Thanks to Judy McDermott for the news.

Drive Label Daemon runs in the background and refreshes the title of your drive icons so they reflect their volume labels. It is currently (4/20/2000) on version 1.0. From WarpCast.

There are a couple new Java games to play with. Planetary Hoppers version 0.21.0 (4/20/2000) is a multiplayer, TCP/IP-based space strategy game. JSolitaire version 1.08c (3/17/2000) includes several solitaire games that you can play in the web browser, or applet viewer.

A product patch for StarOffice 5.1a was made available (4/19/2000) by Sun. It contains the previous fixes, as well as some new ones. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.

Wayne Swanson has updated (4/6/2000) BgMetrics, a native OS/2 solution to track Blood Glucose readings and dietary info for diabetics. It now includes support for downloading data from selected glucometers, a FoodListing database, a menu builder, and some archiving functions. BgMetrics is available at no charge for those who need it.

The first game using Scitech's MGL, 4D Tic-Tac-Toe, has been updated (4/4/2000) to version 1.1. If this works well, more things will be ported to MGL, including Retrocade.

An accounting app called $CHANGE$ (Comes Hard ANd Goes Easy) is now in pre-alpha, and available (3/25/2000) from Hobbes. The pre-Alpha version is to show the basic transaction engine and capabilities, and ease of use, like MoneyCounts. From WarpCast.

HotEdit version 2.00 has been released (3/16/2000). HotEdit is a Java image map editor that features: client side HTML plugin; create polygon, rectangle, circle HotSpot / Image Map areas; reads GIF and JPEG image formats; load / save name / description / image / window definitions for later use; handles multiple images at the same time; print HotSpot/Image reports; JavaHelp; and English and Danish language support.

Henk Kelder has updated (3/15/2000) WPTools to version 3.2. WPTools includes utilities for cleaning the OS/2 INI files, doing a WPS backup and restore, and more. Also available is Icontool version 1.92. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.

dBase Info version 0.96 is now (3/15/2000) available. This is a freeware PM viewer for DBF files with some basic functions. It can also convert to SDF, ASCII, and HTML.

A Java clone of Bomberman called bOmb! has been created. I've made an OS/2 archive that has an install script and icon, and was compiled on OS/2. Although text is French, I think you can figure out how to play (I did).

Ellie build 03r3 has been released (3/5/2000). Ellie is a 32 bit, multi-threaded, SETI@Home monitor for the OS/2 seti@home client. It features: skymap to show WU origination, percentage per hour graph, object-oriented client setup and control, alarms, and support for SETI@Home 2.0. Thanks to Marco G. Salvagno for the news.

Upclient/2 is an OS/2 client for interfacing with www.uptimes.net, a web page where you can compare your system uptimes with that of other people around the world. It is now (2/29/2000) on release 3. From WarpCast.

The PowerUtilities Screen saver, a screen saver that has GPI, DIVE, and SSM modules, has been updated (2/29/2000) to version 1.2.00. From WarpCast.

PU Monitor has been updated (2/25/2000) to version 2.1 build 161. PU Monitor monitors CPU Usage, TCP/IP traffic, free RAM, Uptime, POP3 mailbox checker, and Connection monitor, and has a unique 'Attach to Warp Center' feature. Qu/2 is a new audio player for WAV and MP3 files. It is currently (2/24/2000) on version 0.99c-pre2. The web page is Russian, but the program has English menus. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.

Craig Ballantyne has ported the 3Dfx Voodoo1 Glide2 driver version 2.46 and Voodoo 2 Glide2 version 2.53 to OS/2. Included in the port is the driver, test programs, and a demonstration application (donut). Eventually, this will be compatible with Odin, so that you can run OpenGL Windows games, like Quake2.

StarTrack version 0.05 has been released (2/14/2000). This is a CD player with CDDB support. From WarpCast.

WarpCenter CD Player version 2.0 beta has been released (2/14/2000). It runs from a WarpCenter tray and displays track info in the tasklist.

ScanPCI, a utility that scans the PCI buses and lists the devices attached to the system, has been updated (2/3/2000).

LPTool version 2.12 has been released (1/31/2000). LPTool enables file transfer and remote execution via a "laplink" cable connection between parallel ports of two machines. From WarpCast.

ServerConfig/2 version 1.9 has been released (1/26/2000). It is a PM configuration util for Apache, InetPowerServer/2, and the IBM TCP/IP Firewall. It also allows you to remote configure any unix/linux Apache. It includes a daemon that can be compiled under any gcc and thus allows ServerConfig/2 to receive and save configurations remotely, all from OS/2.

Eirik Overby has released (1/23/2000) Zampa (aka The Wall) version 1.0b. Zampa is a front-end configuration program for IBM's TCP/IP Firewall.

Massimo Sangriso reports that Ridax has updated their remote control software, PM2You, to version 4.1.

VisualAge for Java version 3.02 Entry Edition (the free one) is now available for download. New in Version 3.0: support of Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.1.7 and Swing 1.0.3; an improved Tool Integrator API supporting third-party plug-in tools; Visual Composition Editor (VCE) provides complete visual programming, support for Swing beans, and full support for serialization; and improved Data Access Beans.

PMJPEG version 2.03 has been released. This is a shareware image viewer with image processing and conversion capabilities. From WarpCast.

Sergey Chehuta has released Archive Converter version 1.00. This program will convert from any archive type to any other archive type, as long as you have the appropriate programs.

The WorkPlace Shell TrashCan has been updated (1/11/2000) to version 2.71. TrashCan is a replacement for the Shredder object. It brings a Macintosh-like trash can to your desktop, enabling you to recover trashed objects.

I have created (1/11/2000) an OS/2 archive of JNapster version 0.6. Napster offers access to MP3 files from users worldwide. It contains binaries compiled on OS/2, as well as an installation script to put an icon on the desktop. It requires Java 1.1.8 and Swing.

There is now a package available (1/8/2000) that allows application of the later FixPaks (41/42) to OS/2 3.0 clients.

A developer release of Enlightenment 0.16.4 has been released (1/6/2000) for XFree86/OS2. This is part of the GNOME/2 project. Also available (4/12/99) is a port of Enlightenment 0.15.5. Enlightenment is one of the nicest looking window managers for XFree86.

The Diamond Rio MP3 Player utility version 1.07 has been ported (1/6/2000) to OS/2. It allows you to upload / download MP3s to / from your Diamond Rio MP3 player.

PGCC, the Pentium-optimized version of the GNU C Compiler, has been ported to OS/2. The latest release (1/2/2000) is 2.95.3. From WarpCast.
