LEECHMP3 version 3.70 has been released (12/19/2001). This program uses Leech or Tonigy as a CD grabber, and LAME as an MP3 encoder to make MP3 files from audio CDs. The programs are run simultaneously to reduce encoding time, and it has CDDB access to retrieve track titles. From VOICE News.


Dbf2MySQL version 0.74 has been released (12/16/2001). This program converts .DBF (dBase/Clipper) files to mysql scripts. From VOICE News.


TiMidity version 2.10.4 has been ported (12/13/2001) to OS/2. TiMidity plays MIDI and Module (.MOD) files via software, rather than relying on your sound card's capabilities. There is also an MCD version that installs as part of OS/2 Multimedia. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.


IBM has released (12/13/2001) a Ensoniq 1371 audio driver for OS/2.


IBM has released (12/13/2001) drivers for Crystal sound cards, including CS4231 / CS4248, CS4232 / CS4236, CS4237, and CS4237B / CS4238B / CS4239.


IBM has released (12/12/2001) a CT5880 audio driver for OS/2. This works with the SoundBlaster PCI cards. You need a Software Choice subscription or access to eCS updates to get this.

Poor Man's Flight is a table editor / visualizer for IBM's DB2 database. The main feature is viewing and editing any table in the database. Unfortunately, you have to e-mail the author to get this software (it is not free). Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.

Platon Fomichev has ported two powerful Web grabbers and downloaders to XFree86/OS2. Downloader for X version 1.30 (11/30/2001) has a nice user friendly interface, with download queues and much more. Pavuk version 0.9pl27 (4/10/2001) is used to mirror contents of WWW documents or files, with an optional GTK+ GUI.


DSKSLEEP.FLT version 0.98 has been released (11/26/2001). This filter driver stops your SCSI disks when they haven't been accessed for some time, with timeout selection per disk, IOCtl interface, and APM support. From VOICE News.


Martin Kiewitz has released patches to allow some DOS games to run under OS/2. There are now patches for Fade To Black (11/23/2001) and Comanche 3 (11/24/2001).

A LDAP SDK based on OpenLDAP 2.0.15 is now (11/20/2001) available. This allows you to use LDAP APIs in your C programs. There is also a REXX LDAP API there. From VOICE News.


A couple more OS/2 games have become (11/20/2001) open source: Lites Out! is a clone of the Electronic game Lights Out, with an optional twist to make it harder. Compulsive Gambler's Toolkit contains Blackjack 1.0, Caribbean Poker 1.0, Caribbean Stud Poker 1.3a, and Multi Poker 1.05.


DoxyGen version 1.2.11 has been ported (11/20/2001) to OS/2. This tool can generate an on-line documentation browser (in HTML) and/or an off-line reference manual from a set of documented source files. There is also support for generating output in RTF (MS-Word), PostScript, hyperlinked PDF, compressed HTML, and Unix man pages. The documentation is extracted directly from the sources, which makes it much easier to keep the documentation consistent with the source code. Blocks version 1.01 has been released. This is a strategy game, with some elements of Tetris. From VOICE News.


Rich Walsh has released (11/15/2001) CpPal version 0.30; this Codepage Switcher uses drag & drop to let you query and change the codepages used by PM-based programs that are already running. You can also set the PM "message queue" codepage to any of the 100+ values in country.sys. PM will use this codepage to translate keystrokes into characters and character values into the glyphs displayed in a window.


IBM has updated (the date on the webpage is incorrect) the drivers for the Adaptec SCSI cards; it contains the fix for the infinitely long chkdsk times during bootup. Also available (6/28/2000) is the Adaptec version of the drivers. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.


Martin Kiewitz has released patches to allow some DOS games to run under OS/2. IDPATCHR (11/7/2001) allows Doom, Doom2, Heretic, Hexen, and Strife games to work using Soundblaster sound. The Syndicate Wars patch (11/9/2001) allows that game to run with sound. Be sure to check out Martin's section on DOS games at OS/2 World.


Sizer has been released (11/8/2001); this is a program that shrinks the help viewer window to a more reasonable size. Thanks to Dr. Martin R. Hadam for the news.


The VPART boot manager has been updated (11/7/2001). It can now boot from a 0F extended partition, and/or above the first 1024 cylinders.


A software kit for integrating PMMail with Netscape has been updated (11/6/2001) to version 0.0.5. This causes PMMail to be called instead of Netscape Messenger when a "mailto:" link is pressed, or other instances when mail is used.


WarpMedia beta 8 has been released (11/5/2001). This is a PM based media player, that can play MPEG-1 audio/video, DivX ;-) audio/video and MP3 audio. It is capable of displaying video in a PM window, in fullscreen mode, or using TV-out. It also features skin support and an xCenter plugin. You can find the latest version here. From VOICE News.


There are some updated (11/4/2001) programming libraries available on Hobbes: PERFDLL is a DosQueryPerformance() dynalink library, that queries performance activity ratios (busy, idle and interrupt one) of overall system and each CPU on 32bit OS/2 processes. MAPYHMEM is a DosMapPhysMem() dynalink library, that maps specified physical memory region to 32bit process address space and unmaps it. FREQCPU is a DosEstimateFreqCPU() dynalink library, that estimates clock frequency of all available CPUs on 32bit OS/2 environment.


VIA has released version 2.10B of their OS/2 sound drivers for their AC97 audio chipset, which is integrated into many motherboards. From OS2.org.


Citrix has released (11/1/2001) ICA OS/2 Client version 6.012. This is used to run Win32 apps on a remote WinFrame or MetaFrame (NT) server.


The Very Interesting Vision version 1.0 has been released (11/1/2001). This game is currently only available in German. From the screenshots, it looks like some space strategy game. From OS2.org.


Some codecs for the Warpvision AVI player have been uploaded (11/1/2001) to Hobbes, which enable the playing of the vast majority of AVIs, including Indeo, Cinepac and MP4. Thanks to Jason Stefanovich for the news.

A utility for decoding 'NEF' files, the raw image files from the Nikon D1 camera, has been released (10/31/2001). From VOICE News.


Daniela Engert has released (10/30/2001) DaniDASD version 1.4.4, an OS2DASD.DMD replacement. It supports extendedX partitions (type 0F) and Linux extended partitions (type 8F), FAT32 partitions (type 0B and 0C), FAT16X partitions (type 0E), and eight additional partition types as specified by the user (including "hidden" partitions); it can override the boot drive letter assignment; and it can create a logical volume map independent of the physical volumes. It doesn't support arbitrary drive letter mappings ("holes"), disk spanning, dynamic volume resizing, or JFS, but this "mini-LVM" doesn't have some of the problems that IBM's LVM does: it doesn't store the drive letter assignments globally in LVM sectors (thus each CONFIG.SYS can have it's own different mapping), and it handles removable media as it used to be. It can also be booted from any boot manager.

HTMLtoPDF version 1.0 has been released (10/26/2001). HTMLtoPDF is a PM front end for the htmldoc program, which converts HTML files to Adobe PDF or PostScript format. From VOICE News.


Version 7.00b of Dialog Enhancer has been released (10/24/2001). Dialog Enhancer provides a simple but highly effective update to your desktop and 3rd party applications by neatly re-sizing dialogs, adding new icons, and changing the font used to WarpSans. This version includes MouseSmart, which offers improved configuration of mouse speed and acceleration on the desktop, vastly improved support for OS/2 networking, and many other fixes and tweaks. SoundBlaster Live! driver version 0.80 has been released (9/28/2001). It features: up to 32 simultaneous wave playback streams, recording stream, full duplex, support for the IOCTL90 mixer interface, and full source code is available from the Netlabs CVS server. MAME, the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, has been updated (9/24/2001) to version 0.37b14. This version was rewritten from scratch to use the DualMode library for full screen and windowed graphics and contains a completely new GUI. This version of MAME supports over 2,800 arcade games. An OS/2 port of ARJ/2 3.10 has been released (9/23/2001). It was designed to be maximally compatible with the existing DOS version, but supports OS/2 long filenames and is able to create native OS/2 ARJSFX, ARJSFXV and ARJSFXJR modules.

Cipher Plugin for Netdrive has been released. The Cipher Plugin is the only OS/2 solution that provides transparent data encryption using the most secure ciphers (AES - rijndael, blowfish, twofish, mars, etc). GNUPack, a collection of GNU command-line utilities, has been updated (9/7/2001) to version 1.2. It is available as a WarpIn package.


SmartBar version 3.2 is now (9/5/2001) available. This is a nice looking system monitor that can display memory, swap, processes, threads, files in use, cpu load, network activity, new mail, temperatures, time, and more.


Some widgets for XCenter have been released, most of which require the XWorkplace Widget Library. The most recent provides some scripts and icons (HBSCROBJ3.zip, 9/3/2001) for lockup, find, and run objects.


ebaybot is a REXX script to place an ebay bid at the last possible moment. The script itself can be downloaded (8/31/2001) from Hobbes.


NetUse version 1.5 has been released. This is a PM front end for connecting or disconnecting network shares.


The file tool called "Names" has been updated (8/27/2001) to version 1.3. This application checks files on HPFS drives, and allows you to change case, revise differences between file and WPS object names, and change file attributes. Thanks to Sergey Posokhov for the news.


CMDRUN version 1.3 has been released; it is an OS/2 WPS replacement WPFolder class which gives the ability to start command line sessions from any folder with the current directory set to that folder, and gives a Run menu option similar to that found in Windows, allowing the starting of OS/2, DOS and Windows applications.

Audio Center 1.0 has been released (8/12/2001). "AudioCenter is an OS/2 audio front-end that you can configure to be used as a front-end for any OS/2 based audio program. It has been tested with UltiMOD, Muse/2, DMP 1.09, mp123, mpg123, maplay and Timidity using Warp 4." Also available is MikMod 3.1.9a, along with a plugin for PM123.


Table version 1.2.0 has been released (8/8/2001). This is a combination of an ASCII character code chart and a tool to convert and display binary, decimal, octal, hexadecimal and ascii representations of a string. Thanks to Goran Ivankovic for the news.

KC-Emu/2 version 0.3 has been released (7/19/2001). This is an emulator of the KC, which is similar to the C64.

AWPralf version 0.3.1 has been released (7/11/2001). This is a plugin for Auto WGet Daemon that offers selective download of URL objects on desktop; download files to different directories depending on file extensions; and check for possible duplicate files before downloading.


MemSize version 4.0 beta has been updated (7/4/2001). This program provides a digital clock (with date), the elapsed time since your system's last restart, the amount of free virtual memory, the current swap-file size, the maximum amount the swap-file can still grow, the current CPU load (%), the number of active tasks and the amount of disk space free on each of your hard disks. A new alpha of EverBlue, the XLib-PM implementation for OS/2, has been released (6/21/2001). EverBlue allows you to compile Xlib (Unix/Linux) applications as native PM applications. The beta is still not really usable for end users.


Filip Molcan has made Skins Collection 3.5 for PM123. It adds 10 new skins to Skins Collection III, which includes a skin preview program, as well as visual plugins.

ConfigEdit/2 is a Config.sys Data Base Manager, that can auto-generate config.sys files from a Data Base which can be either imported or created by hand. It can be used to hold multiple config.sys files and generate new ones. It also manages OS/2's Recovery Choices. It is currently (5/28/2001) on version 1.8.

OS/2 Commander version 1.29 beta 4 has been released (5/6/2001). This is a Norton Commander clone.


Eric Lavoie has updated (5/3/2001) some Vispro objects that allows users of Vispro Rexx, C and C++ to have fly over buttons, and progress bars that display in percent, 3D or flat. There is also a mailing list for these objects.

Christopher Hodges has released MIDI Station Sequencer version 3.0 beta2. MIDI Station Sequencer is a 16 channel, multi-track sequencer that uses the RTMIDI (Real-Time MIDI subsystem) to communicate with a MIDI keyboard. New features include a brand new audio engine, full audio editing, and complete audio sequencing. There is also a table of soundcards with settings for drivers on the page.

Wayne Swanson has updated (4/18/2001) SFX Installer, a tool for point and click installation setups that are personalized for your software. SFX allows you to build an archive in standard or self-extracting format, with or without the installer. It includes: Dll and help file placement (and tracking) into existing LIBPATH and SET HELP directories; uninstallation script is written at install time specific to the users installation that will track all files your program has installed and remove any WPS objects created at installation time; plugin scripts to overcome any installation limitations. Freeware authors can use the installer free of charge.

INI editor version 1.20 has been released (4/13/2001); it has integrated tools to compare ini files and search multiple files for a string. WPSBar alpha 1 has been released (4/4/2001). This is yet another WarpCenter replacement.


The game MasterMind/2 has been updated (4/2/2001) to version 1.4b. This is an implementation of the classic logic-game for OS/2. The main features are: choose the colors to use, drag and drop, fully help enabled, quick and small, and high scores.


Connect/2 7.6.8 has been released (4/2/2001). Connect/2 is a free Norton Commander clone with more capabilities, including Hexedit. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.


Osuwari Multi version 1.06 has been updated (4/1/2001). This program is used to show a pretty anime girl sitting on your active window. Thanks to Masahiro Sakai for the news.


Warpster version 1.0 alpha 21 has been released (3/24/2001). This is a native GUI Napster client.


EMX 0.9d fix 04 has been released (3/21/2000). This is a complete package for programmers; users will only need emxrt.zip. These Unix-compatibility libraries are required for XFree86/OS2, Quake for OS/2, and countless OS/2 utilities. You're going to need this library sooner or later. An alpha build of an SSH2 client for OS/2 has been released (3/8/2001). Also available (8/25/2000) is an OS/2 port of Secure Shell version 1.2.30. Secure Shell is like telnet, but uses encryption, so your passwords can't be stolen. It can emulate xterm, linux, vt220, os2 terminals, and supports VIO applications.


Java Image Processing Program was released a while back (3/8/2001). This Java program only seems to be available in German. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.


A patch that allows WinOS2 to look like Object Desktop 2.0 has been released (3/8/2001). This is a modified seamless WinOS2 screen driver that will work with any GRADD based video driver.


GP/PARI has been ported (3/8/2001) to OS/2. GP/PARI is a mathematical calculations program / programming language / C library. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.


Martin Kiewitz has released (3/7/2001) a patch for the DOS Rayman game to work under OS/2.


IBM Japan has a new (3/6/2001) driver (EPOMNI4) for Epson printers, which supports the Stylus Color 670, 680, 777, 880, and 980, and may work on other models as well. Thanks to Klaus Staedtler for the news.

With Stardock no longer supporting Object Desktop, someone has made an unofficial OD 2.0 FixKit #4 available (3/4/2001) on Hobbes. All modifications were directly made on the binaries, so things that can be done are very limited.


Roderick Klein reports that there is some Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol software now available (3/4/2001) on his web page. It is no longer under development, but may be of use to someone.


Gewels has been ported (3/1/2001) to XFree86/OS2. Gewels is a Gnome clone of Jewels, a tetris-like game. Thanks to XDmitry for the news.


Goran Ivankovics has released (2/27/2001) Unit Converter version 0.96. Unit Converter is a PM utility which enables "on-the-fly" unit conversions. You can add, change, or delete groups and units, conversion factors and prefixes.


The SafeFire PPP Dialin 3rd Party addon version 1.0 beta 2 has been released (2/22/2001). This allows you to create a PPP dial-up server. Thanks to Head of PPP development group for the news.


Gozer, a command line text rendering utility for creating images from abitrary text, has been ported (2/22/2001) to OS/2. It needs Imlib2 engine and X11 libs to work. Thanks to Platon Fomichev for the news.


VRAID version 2.3 has been released (2/15/2001). This software RAID now implements RAID 1 (mirroring), RAID 0 (striping) and chaining. Define array drives from SCSI, IDE, MFM, ... disks using drag and drop. Supports any filesystem available for OS/2.


Shepherd version 1.1.0 beta has been released. Shepherd is a TCP/IP server framework with support for SMTP, POP3, FTP, j-Chat, and remote administration. Thanks to Jason Koeninger for the news.


PM Download Center version 0.6.0 has been released (2/7/2001). This program adds many new features to Wget and Auto Get/2 and does away with URL objects being lost, offers more options, download order selection, and pause or release downloads at your command. Panda AntiVirus for OS/2 has been updated (2/5/2001). Apparently you must be a registered user to download. Thanks to Thomas Frey for the news.


Netfinity 5.20.7 for OS/2 is available (1/29/2001) for free download. Netfinity is a family of distributed applications designed to enhance the system monitoring and management capabilities of a network. The client software is pretty useful for examining your system (BIOS, peripherals, etc).


Chuck Cohen has released (1/26/2001) some ID3 tag editors for MP3 files. MyMP3FS finds mp3 files along a search path and sets them up for individual or multiple editing. MyMP3Rx can edit v1.1 & 1.2 tags or will amend an ID3 Tag to the end of the file if none was there originally (v 1.2 is used for writing). MyMP3Rx will also remove TAGS, delete or rename & move files and make, rename or remove directories.


CSD 19 for the Graham Utilities for OS/2 v2.0 is now (1/21/2001) available from WarpSpeed. This takes it to version 2.10.9, and includes the new Task Manager.


Home Page Publisher version 2.1 "level C" is available (1/19/2001). This version includes frames support, DBCS, Drag/Drop, Undo/Redo, Toolbar Designer, and a dictionary. From OS2.org.

TEAM OS/2 Russia has ported some XFree86/OS2 games, GTowers 0.1 (1/17/2001) and XScorch 0.1.10 (1/16/2001). Thanks to XDmitry for the news.


Propaganda, the well-known series of tilable background images, have been uploaded (1/16/2001) to Hobbes in WPI format.


XDmitry reports that TEAM OS/2 Russia has updated (1/16/2001) the HTML conversion utilities for Excel (xlhtml 2.8) files.


A zip2wpi utility has been released (1/13/2001). This Rexx script can take a zip file and turn it into a WPI file for WarpIn.


Theta Band Software has announced that its two products, WarpCharge and MM Pack, will soon be released under an "Open Source" software license. They are now available for free download, and the source code will be released in the first quarter of 2001 under the GPL and/or Berkeley (BSD) license. Thanks to Frank Berke for the news.


The source code for the OS/2 port of Hexen is now available. Also available (7/11/99) is the binary for version 0.13. It features a settings dialog, sound effects, music, joystick support, and mouse support.


CPU Limiter version 0.1.3 has been released (1/11/2001). This is an automated killer for processes which eat too much CPU for a specified period of time.


The OS/2 build of MGLDOOM has been updated (1/10/2001) to work with SDD beta 37. Get the older version also if you need the shareware WAD file - it will also work with commercial DOOM 1, 2, and Ultimate DOOM WADs.


Bart van Leeuwen has written (1/8/2001) a driver that enables the extra buttons on the IBM Rapid Access Keyboard I. This keyboard is available as a option from IBM and is the default keyboard for a broad range of IBM Aptiva Systems. When this driver is loaded the extra keys will generate Scan Codes like any other key. Extra software to attach actions to the keys is needed, such as XWorkplace.


Michele Della Guardia has updated (1/8/2001) NUT/2, the Nutritional Database for OS/2, to version 5.5.

'Yotogi-Hime's APM Monitor' version 0.61e has been released (1/1/2001). It allows you to check power status, battery remainder, etc. in APM-enabled environment. It can also perform APM sleep / suspend / power-off or restart system. Customizable window shape or graphic images with external 'Panel File'. You can find it on Hobbes.
