A driver for the Sundance ST201 network chipset, version 1.00 has been released (12/26/2006).


RexxMail has been updated (12/24/2006). RexxMail is an object-oriented WPS e-mail client with built-in POP3 and SMTP services, written in REXX. From VOICE News.


IBM Alphaworks has released (12/11/2006) version 1.3.0 of an MPEG-4 player and content creator development kit that works with Java 1.3.1. Reportedly, it plays MPEG4 video (samples included) just fine on a PII-300MHz machine.


ATSHELL version 0.5 has been released (12/9/2006). This is a RUNWORKPLACE (OS/2 desktop) replacement, which allows an arbitrary program to be used as the 'desktop', including the Workplace Shell (PMSHELL), but also a web browser or some custom application. The desktop program can be stopped and restarted without rebooting the system. It is licensed under the GPL, with full source code available.


Ancient Empires Lux has been released (12/7/2006). This is a Java-based game of strategy and domination inspired by the board game Risk, and takes you through all the greatest civilizations of early history.


web/2 has been updated (11/28/2006). This is an easy to configure webserver for OS/2 with features such as SSI, virtual domains, and more. You can find the latest version here. From OS2.org.


Paul Smedley has built (11/26/2006) an OS/2 version of gzip version 1.3.6. It works with long filenames, unlike some earlier ports.


VCDBurn version 0.9.5.6 has been released (11/25/2006). This is a GUI frontend for ffmpeg, vcdimager, and cdrdao to transcode video files, and build and burn a VCD image.


quePDF version 1.03 has been released. This is a queue processor that manages the pipe between an application and ePDF. From VOICE News.


FotoGet/2 version 1.0.11 has been released (11/20/2006). This is a utility to ease the transfer of pictures from a digital camera. There is also a support mailing list.


VCGUI version 0.9.0.2 has been released. This is a graphical interface for version control programs, such as CVS.


CAD-handler has been updated (10/29/2006). This offers a Ctrl-Alt-Del popup menu, including a mini process list with kill, ability to unmount and remount filesystems, and reset the WPS.


cabextract version 1.2 has been ported (10/29/2006) to OS/2. This is a tool for extracting files from CAB archives.


MGL 6.0 release 23 and SciTech SNAP SDK 3.1 release 23 are now (10/26/2006) available. This is a portable graphics library and device driver architecture, respectively. You can see more information on SciTech MGL and the SNAP SDK.


Preferential version 0.8.2 has been released (10/24/2006). This is an add-on for Mozilla that gives you a tree with access to all of the preferences, including those that are not normally exposed.


Electronic Teller, one of OS/2's oldest shareware home financial applications, has been updated (10/23/2006) to version 4.40. Electronic Teller is a home finance application that allows you to keep track of your checking, credit card and cash accounts. It can keep track of multiple accounts and multiple users, and can import .QIF files from Quicken. Thanks to Sander Nyman for the news.


KeyRing Mini version 1.0.0.31 has been released (10/17/2006). This is a replacement for KeyRing/2, the Secure Password Keeper for OS/2. It is a password / bank PIN / lock combination vault and program launcher with many features.


The Network Interface Card Pak (NICPak) has been updated (10/2/2006). This is a collection of various NIC drivers and a tool for detecting and installing them.


Audio/Data-CD-Creator version 0.57 pre1 has been released (10/1/2006). It is a folder class for the WPS which works as a frontend for cdrecord/2 for creating audio and data CDs. Just put wavefiles or data into this folder and press 'write'. Arbitrary ordering of files is possible via DnD. You can find the latest version on NetLabs. From OS2.org.


Bluemont Software has released jPixDb version 4.1. This is a Java program for organizing, viewing, and printing picture albums, which requires Java 1.4.


VCOMPAT version 0.35 beta has been released (9/16/2006). This is a VDD to fix some issues in VDMs to further enhance compatibility. It contains many fixes, some of which are user-controllable via Properties. The latest version is on Hobbes.


gDiagramm version 0.07 has been released (9/16/2006). This is a utility for quickly plotting graphs to png or jpg files from text data files such as CSV or log. You can find the latest version on Hobbes.


ZeroToaster::HTTPD version 1.63 has been released (9/5/2006). This is a small webserver written in Java, featuring multihosting, CGI, LRWP, PHP, SSI, AUTH, and SERVLETS.


sblmix version 1.02 has been released (8/18/2006). This is a mixer for SB Live 5.1 cards, used with the UniAudio drivers. Note: it doesn't work with my SB Live 5.1 card.


lBreakout version 2.6 beta 6 has been ported (8/13/2006) to OS/2. This is a "Breakout" style arcade game, in the tradition of Arkanoid.


Paul Smedley has ported (8/13/2006) dproxy-nexgen to OS/2. This is a small caching name server (DNS).


Boost.Jam version 3.1.13 has been ported (8/11/2006) to OS/2. This is a build system that allows for a flexible definition of toolsets, sources, targets, directories and actions. Thanks to Cornelis Bockemuehl for the news.


Franz Bakan has built cflow version 1.1 for OS/2. This tool analyzes C source files and prints a graph, charting control flow within the program.


American History Lux version 1.07 has been released. This is a Java-based game of strategy and domination inspired by the board game Risk, featuring the history of American wars.


Tuxpaint version 0.9.15b has been ported (7/29/2006) to OS/2. This is a drawing program designed for young children.


The SDL game Enigma version 0.92 has been ported (7/29/2006) to OS/2. Enigma is a puzzle game inspired by Oxyd on the Atari.


Brutus version 1.0 beta 3 has been released (7/27/2006). This is a Java 1.4 program for organizing and cataloging collections of albums (recordings), books, movies, and software, such as LPs, CDs, DVDs, MPG files, or anything else. From VOICE News.


Reinhard Berger has released (7/24/2006) a TCP/IP configuration program, intended to replace the Java TCPCfg2. It now includes a graphical client for NFS mounts.


CVS version 1.12.13 has been ported (7/19/2006) to OS/2. This is a source control tool for projects with multiple developers.


scsimon version 0.0.2 has been released (7/18/2006). This tool is for monitoring SCSI hard drive temperature, error counters and logs.


Cable version 1.0 has been released (7/18/2006). This is a small tool to allow automatic startup of XWLan when the network cable is not connected to your computer. Note that it only works with the GenMac driver is used for your LAN card. From VOICE News.


XEphem version 3.5 has been ported (7/17/2006) to XFree86/OS2. See the project home page of this astronomical software for further information.


David Graser has released (7/17/2006) some iThemes for the eCS 2.0 beta, including Briefcases, Books, 3D Buckets, Blue Folders, and Brown Boxes.


Paul Smedley has released (7/16/2006) an OS/2 package for Varsha, a GUI based DVD authoring tool that requires Java 1.4. This tool can create DVD menus incorporating a backdrop of still pictures as well as moving video backgrounds.


NetOp Remote Control version 9.0 has been released. It offers fast, secure, and stable cross platform remote control, file transfer, and chat capabilities with other OS/2 users as well as any Windows or network DOS NetOp module. The client program is still at version 6.5, although it can still be used with a 9.0 host. Thanks to Per Johansson for the news.


Paul Smedley has released (7/14/2006) an OS/2 port of RRD Tool version 1.2.13. This is the Round Robin Database, a system to store and display time-series data (i.e. network bandwidth, machine-room temperature, server load average).


An OS/2 port of GPhoto2 version 2.2.0 has been released (7/10/2006). NetLabs also has (5/1/2005) a build of version 2.1.5. This is the GNU digital camera application, which supports numerous cameras. From OS2.org.


FilePage version 4.0 alpha has been released (7/7/2006). This will convert directory listings to HTML output. From VOICE News.


Paul Smedley has released (6/25/2006) build 2 of Alien Blaster version 1.10. This is an SDL game where you blast the aliens.


Crafty version 20.14 has been ported (6/25/2006) to OS/2. This is a powerful chess engine.


lxsplit version 0.1.1 has been released (6/24/2006). This splits files into bite size chunks and re-assembles them. It should be compatible with HJSplit files.


eComStation.Ru has some USB tools available, including a program to control multimedia keys on USB keyboards. Thanks to Eugene Gorbunoff for the info.


PolarbarWeb/2 version 0.14 has been released (6/15/2006). This is a cgi web frontend for PolarBar mailer, that allows you to read email in a web browser.


IBM has updated (6/13/2006) the Logical Volume Manager (LVM) components. You need a Software Choice subscription or access to eCS updates to get this. From os2.jp.


Musepack's MPEGplus version 1.2.2 has been ported (6/13/2006) to OS/2, and is available as a plugin for PM123. MPEGplus (.mpc) is a lossy audio format like MP3.


lsdvd version 0.16 has been released (6/11/2006). This will print some info about the content of a DVD.


Matrox has released (6/6/2006) version 1.10 of their video card BIOS updates for the Parhelia chipsets, as well as version 2.58.002 for the G200, G400, G450, and G550 video cards. Also available (4/9/99) is version 3.51 of BIOS updates for the older cards, which puts the G100 AGP at 1.6, G100 PCI at 1.2, Millenium II PCI at 1.5, Millenium II AGP at 1.4, Mystique at 1.8, and Millenium at 3.0.


OS2INFO version 0.41 has been released (6/1/2006). This will print details of the current system including CPU count, CPU information, uptime, network traffic, OS Information, number of drives, partitition information and so on. pciutils version 2.2.3 has been ported (6/1/2006) to OS/2 (and DOS). This includes utilities for inspecting and setting of devices connected to the PCI bus.


DirDiff version 2.07 has been released (5/28/2006). This compares all files in a sub-directory or whole directory trees and locates which files have been modified, which files have been created and which files have been deleted. From OS2.org.


NMC gadget has been updated (5/24/2006). This is a monthly calendar gadget for use with WPSWizard. Thanks to Cristiano Guadagnino for the news.


Doodle has ported (5/22/2006) Jump'N'Bump version 1.50 to OS/2. This is a multiplayer game where you are a cute little bunny, that has to avoid getting stomped by the other bunnies, and try to stomp on them.


star version 1.5.73 has been ported (5/14/2006) to OS/2. This is a POSIX 1003.1 compliant tar archiver. The OS/2 port supports files larger than 2GB, and features support for extended attributes. From VOICE News.


smake version 1.2.34 has been ported (5/14/2006) to OS/2. This is a highly portable make program with automake features. From VOICE News.


MiMMS version 0.0.9 has been ported (5/11/2006) to OS/2. This is a simple client to download streaming audio and/or video media from the internet using the MMS protocol (i.e. from mms:// URLs).


JDraw version 1.1.5 has been released (5/3/2006). This is a pixel oriented graphics editor written in Java (1.3 or above), and can save in (animated) GIF, ICO, and PNG formats.


IBM has released some fixes which are available for download by registered eComstation users (search for "APAR"); there are fixes for time stamps in UDF.IFS, a removal of the 1024 limit for printer driver selection, and fixes to the mouse and power objects for compatibility with XWorkplace. A REXX to OS/2 executable wrapper has been released (4/10/2006).


wav2cdr version 2.2.3 has been ported (4/7/2006) to OS/2. This program converts wav sound files to a format which can be recorded on a CD.


sitecopy version 0.16.3 has been ported (4/4/2006). This program will upload files to the server which have changed locally, and delete files from the server which have been removed locally, to keep the remote site synchronized with the local site with a single command. RAMFS version 1.21 has been released (4/2/2006). This is a very flexible file system driver for creating RAM drives.


Pixel image editor version 1.0 beta 6 build 521 has been released (4/1/2006) for eComstation; it is now a public download.


Warped Wave Editor version 0.78 has been released (3/15/2006). This is a fully plugin-based audio editor, which supports reading and writing of ogg files and all formats supported by MMOS2, cut / copy / paste, changing volume, and playback (via DART).


VCDImager version 0.7.23 has been ported (3/11/2006) to OS/2. Also available (2/24/2002) is another port of version 0.7.12. VCDImager is able to create different kinds of Video (VCD) and S-video (SVCD) CDs. Thanks to Paul Smedley for the news.


teTeX version 3.0 release 4 has been ported (2/28/2006) to OS/2. It includes kpsethsea 3.5.4, web2c 7.5.4, tex, etex, pdftex, pdfetex, pdfxtex, lamda,omega, xdvi, dvipdfm, and dvipdfmx.


Bochs version 2.2.6 has been ported (2/26/2006) to OS/2. Bochs is a highly portable open source PC emulator that is capable of running most operating systems (albeit slowly). From OS2.org.


CPUspeed version 1.4 has been released (2/25/2006). This provides automatic CPU speed throttling (to keep it cool, without affecting system performance) via ACPI. It requires the ACPI driver.


David Graser has updated (2/25/2006) his set of folder icons that resemble ones that Stardock used to sell.


The SDL game FreeCNC has been ported (2/3/2006) to OS/2. This is a free implementation of the Command & Conquer Game Engine, which supports the original C&C graphics and audio. From OS2.org.


GIMPS - The Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search version 24.14 has been released (2/3/2006). This is a distributed computing project that searches for prime numbers.


gX version 1.3.1 has been released (1/31/2006). This is a native 32-bit OS/2 XML editor and parser; it can do full validation and SGML compatibility checking. The editor uses document type definitions to provide guidiance in authoring correct documents. For example, use it to create HTML 4.0 documents, or DocBook books and articles.


There are various eComstation themes available; the most recent (1/31/2006) is a collection of 133 by David Graser.


IBM has updated (1/27/2006) the UDF.IFS driver to version 2.1.6. This allows for reading and writing CD-RWs (including DDCD-RW) and DVDs. You need a Software Choice subscription or access to eCS updates to get this. From OS2.org.


WorkPlaceWeather version 0.4 has been released. This downloads weather forecasts from WETTER.COM (Europe weather only) and displays it on your desktop.


Prima Perl GUI Toolkit version 1.20 has been ported (1/20/2006) to OS/2. This is an extensible Perl toolkit for multi-platform GUI development. Supported platforms include Linux, Windows NT/9x/2K, OS/2, and UNIX/X11 workstations (FreeBSD, IRIX, SunOS, Solaris, and others). The toolkit contains a rich set of standard widgets and has emphasis on 2D image processing tasks. A Perl program using Prima looks and behaves identically on X, Win32, and OS/2 PM.


A program to convert PMMail data for use with Thunderbird has been updated (1/14/2006). From VOICE News.


IBM has updated (1/13/2006) the USB drivers that support the USB 1.0 OHCI, USB 1.1 UHCI, and USB 2.0 EHCI specifications. Also updated are the USB keyboard drivers, and the USB mass storage drivers. The latter driver supports many kinds of USB storage devices, including CompactFlash-type flash memory card readers. Some USB digital cameras also have been reported to work with it. A driver for the Realtek RTL8029 network chipset, version 1.01 has been released (1/13/2006).


UPS Power Manager version 1.02 has been released (1/7/2006). This works with several UPS models that have a serial port, including some from Fenton Technologies, Effekta, PowerGuard, PowerCom, Giant Power, Unitek, SuperPower, and more. From VOICE News.


A Font Engine Config Library has been released (1/7/2006). This can be used by application programmers to configure the InnoTek Font Engine. It includes a small demo application, with source code.
