ft2gui version 2.0 beta 3 has been released (11/10/2008). This is a utility to switch between the IBM TrueType.DLL and FreeType.DLL, and configure FreeType options.

The Workplace Shell Toolkit version 1.70 has been released (10/16/2008). This provides helper functions for easier creation of new Workplace Shell Classes. Many functions are also useful for plain PM programming, and the source code is also available.

Calydos/2 version 2.3 has been released (10/16/2008). This is a program for organizing digital photos and other images, which includes a web gallery function. From OS2World.

Robert Blair has released (10/14/2008) version 1.03 of his Sodoku game for OS/2. The game acts as a "whiteboard" for Sodoku puzzles, and is considerably easier (and a lot more fun) to use than paper and pencil. A sample puzzle is included to help you get acquainted with the program, along with a REXX script to download the daily Sudoku puzzles from the "Sudoku Online" web site.

z! has been updated (10/2/2008). This is a textmode MP3 player, that can also handle ogg, streaming audio (Shoutcast), and has normalize support. From OS2.org.

Paul Smedley has released (9/28/2008) an OS/2 port of Battle for Wesnoth version 1.4.5. This is an excellent open-source turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme. From VOICE News.

JDiskReport version 1.3.1 has been repackaged (9/26/2008) and modified to run on OS/2. This Java program gives you a graphical view of how much space the files and directories consume on your disk drives. From OS2.org.

An OS/2 build of Sunbird version 0.9 has been released (9/24/2008). This is the stand-alone Mozilla calendaring program.

Dos Navigator/2 version 2.14 beta has been released (9/23/2008). This is another free VIO Norton Commander clone. The web page is mostly in Russian, but the program should be in English. From OS2.org.

Alpine version 2.00 has been ported (9/11/2008) to OS/2. Alpine (formerly PINE) is a text-based Internet mail and news reader. The UW POP3 and IMAP server is also available for download from the same page.

General Network Utilities has been updated (9/3/2008). This is a powerful Internet diagnostic tool kit featuring several tools designed to help you quickly identify problems, locate where the problem is, and gather data which can be used to solve the problem either directly or through your Internet Service Provider. Some chemistry programs have been posted (8/30/2008) to Hobbes, including: vib_shrink, which calculates harmonic vibrational frequencies, mean square amplitudes, vibrational corrections to rorational constants; and symmetry, which determines molecular symmetry operations and point groups.

URPO has been released (8/26/2008); this is a static library which allows deleting or renaming files still in use by a program. This is most useful for allowing log rotation for daemons; included are versions of kill, mv, and rm linked with this library. From VOICE News.

An OS/2 port of Mercurial version 1.0.2 has been released (8/23/2008). This is a source control system, used by the Mozilla project. It requires Python 2.4.

ZSNES version 1.51r2 has been ported (8/13/2008) to OS/2. This is a SNES emulator.

eRedMan version 0.9.3 has been released (8/12/2008). This is a pipe redirection utility, like printmon.exe or print2ps.cmd that comes with ePDF. It redirects the contents of pipes to a temporary file and calls the associated program with defined parameters as soon as all the data has been written to the pipe. An example usage for this is to use GhostScript as a printer driver in order to turn your inkjet printer into a PostScript printer.

A driver for the Realtek RTL8169 network chipset, version 1.13 has been released (8/4/2008). From os2.jp.

ProNews/2 version 1.60 has been released (7/19/2008). This is a popular newsreader program. All proceeds now go to charity, as the development of this application has been taken over by members of the OS/2 community. The latest version is on Hobbes.

SysInfo/2 version 0.8.26, an OS/2 clone of the Symantec SystemInfo tool, has been released (7/7/2008). It shows info about your CPU/FPU, BIOS, HDD, memory use, video and printer subsystems, LAN and Internet connection, OS/2 version, fixpack installed, and so on.

The OS/2 port of Cairo version 1.6.4 has been updated (6/23/2008). Cairo is a vector graphics library designed to provide high-quality display and print output. Note that Mozilla now uses Cairo as its rendering engine. From VOICE News.

XWorkplace Widgets Library version 0.7.3 has been released (6/21/2008); you can find the latest version on Hobbes. These are REXX widgets for use with XCenter, and contains button, gauge, scroller, menu, and monitor widgets, plus a few more. The latest release fixes the long-standing bug that caused crashes when pressing F1. Thanks to Gregg Young for the info.

Paul Smedley has released (6/21/2008) an OS/2 port of Fuppes, a UPnP A/V Media Server. It supports a wide range of UPnP MediaRenderers, as well as on-the-fly transcoding of various audio, video and image formats. From VOICE News.

CSSDIR version 5.01 has been released. This is a directory and file analyzing and searching tool. Compute CRCs, find file duplicates over multiple machines, do file compares, and more. There is also a GUI version available, as well as upgrade pricing. Thanks to Paul Curtis for the info.

ScummC version 0.2.0 has been ported (5/22/2008) to OS/2. This is a set of tools for creating SCUMM games from scratch, which can be played with ScummVM. Some of the tools require XFree86/OS2 and associated libraries.

Sysbench version 0.9.5c has been released (5/19/2008). This OS/2 benchmarking tool includes PM graphics, DIVE, CPU integer and floating point, disk and file I/O, memory, and CD-ROM benchmarks. Thanks to Sander Nyman for the info.

CDMagic version 3.826 has been released. CDMagic has many audio, database, and CD cover functions, including MP3 and CDDB support.

The powerful CD mastering software, RSJ CD Writer, has been updated (5/13/2008) to version 6.03, which has support for DVD writing, freedb, DAO, IDE drives, creating bootable CDs, and more. Version 6.x adds USB support and a REXX API. From VOICE News.

A UDF plugin for NetDrive has been released (5/11/2008). It includes a replacement for OS2CDROM.DMD and udf.dll; note that it does not work with the original UDF.IFS in write mode. From VOICE News.

Paul Smedley has released (5/8/2008) an OS/2 port of Rocks'n'Diamonds version 3.2.4. Also available (10/17/2007) is another port of version 3.2.4. This is a Boulderdash / Sokoban type game, with lots of additional levels available. From OS2.org.

eCo Software has released (5/7/2008) a patched USB stack on the eComStation Betazone. It contains changes to fix a hang if web cameras are attached, and to set the correct geometry for flash disks larger than 128 Mb. From VOICE News.

Tame/2 has been updated (4/26/2008) to use the latest SANE 1.1.0 CVS code. TAME/2 is a GUI front end for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy), which now comes as a complete scanning solution, together with SANE for SCSI and USB scanners. It has a preview window, supports MMOS2 image formats and light tables, and more. Many scanners from Microtek, Epson, HP, Mustek, Umax, and more are known to be working with this package; if yours works and isn't on the list, let Paul know the details. QTParted version 0.4.5 has been ported (4/26/2008) to OS/2. This is an open source clone of Partition Magic, allowing you to create, resize, and delete various partition types. NTFS is supported, but unfortunately HPFS is not.

NTFS plugin for NetDrive version 1.0 has been released (4/23/2008). This allows read/write access to NTFS partitions.

Lout Document Formatting System version 3.36 has been ported (4/6/2008) to OS/2. This is a multilingual document formatting system producing PostScript and PDF output from text mark-up.

phpGUI version 1.22 has been released (4/4/2008). This is a graphical 'Workbench' for the development of dynamic web sites using PHP, MySQL and HTML.

WPS-Wizard version 0.6.1a3 has been released (3/24/2008). This is a WPS addon which provides desktop gadgets, and gives you freely configurable context menus for all filesystem objects. You may have different extended menus for different classes. It now includes support for PNG icon themes; Cairo is used for rendering, so alpha-blending can be used. There is a tutorial for those who want to create their own icon themes, as well as additional info on the icon engine itself.

Overload/2 version 0.9 has been released (3/22/2008). This is a small strategy game.

Pkg-config version 0.23 has been released (3/18/2008). This is used in Unix build setups to get appropriate CFLAGS, LIBS, and other related variables. From VOICE News.

RXULS version 0.5.2 has been released (3/12/2008). This is a REXX interface to selected parts of the OS/2 ULS (Universal Language Support) API, also known as the Unicode API.

Octave version 3.0.0 has been ported (3/12/2008) to OS/2. This is a high-level language, primarily intended for numerical computations. It provides a command line interface for solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically. From OS2.org.

UPS Monitor has been updated (3/7/2008) for several UPS types. Also available (1/7/2005) is UPS Monitor Daemon, a small VIO program that monitors a UPS connected to a serial port, logs power events and performs a graceful shutdown of the operating system. There are versions of UPS Monitor for APC models Back-UPS Pro, Smart-UPS and other APC smart signaling UPS; APC models Back-UPS and Back-UPS Office simple signaling UPS; Guardian On Board PowerCard UPS; and contact closure UPS models by Tripplite (INTERNET Office model 500 and 700) and IBM (Professional Office models 500 and 700).

DOSBox Front End version 4.9.5 has been released (2/27/2008). This is a GUI front end for launching games using DOSBox.

GenMAC Wrapper version 2.20 for wireless adapters has been released. This wrapper allows the use of Win32 network adapter drivers, for Atheros, Broadcom, Intel, Marvell, nForce, and other chipsets. Also available (1/27/2004) is GenMAC version 2.0 release 3. This is a "generalized driver" for network cards, which properly supports Resource Manager and APM. It currently supports the following NICs: SIS 900, nForce2 MCP-T, nForce MCP-T, NS-DP83820 Gigabit, and 3Com 3C90xC (including the Mini-PCI versions). From VOICE News.

MozCall version 0.3.0 has been released (2/25/2008). This is a script for running Mozilla apps to enable / disable environment variables, allow concurrent execution, and with profile roaming support built-in. Thanks to Alfredo Fernández Díaz for the info.

Alfredo Fernández Díaz has released (2/24/2008) Mozilla Registry Tools version 0.1.0; these are REXX tools for converting Mozilla's registry.dat to a plain text file and back; this allows you to make changes to the file without worrying about the binary format.

David Graser has made several PNG icon themes for WPS Wizard, including several "Ace" variants, "Buuf" variants, "KDE crystal diamond" variants, "dark glass" variants, "snowish KDE" themes, and updates to the original Noia themes.

A toolkit to create subtitles on DVD from srt files has been released (2/16/2008).

An FFmpeg plugin for PM123 has been released (2/11/2008). This allows you to play audio files supported by the FFmpeg library, such as Windows Media Audio (wma) files.

WhatsOn 3.0 has been released (1/23/2008). This is a game inspired by the old Sherlock game for DOS. From VOICE News.

cdrtools 2.01.01a37, which contains cdrecord, readcd, cdda2wav, and mkisofs has been ported (1/21/2008) to OS/2. You can burn single session, multi-session, or audio CDs. It works without ASPIROUT, and even supports USB drives. From OS2.org.

Speex version 1.2 beta3 (r2) has been ported (1/11/2008) to OS/2. This is an open source voice codec, designed to compress voice at bitrates in the 2-45 kbps range. Possible applications include VoIP, internet audio streaming, archiving of speech data (e.g. voice mail), and audio books.

A FLAC plugin for PM123, based on flac-1.2.1, has been released (1/9/2008). FLAC is an open source lossless audio codec.

DragText version 3.9 has been released (1/2/2008). OverDrag allows you to press MB1 or a hotkey while dragging text & objects to: open folders, locate objects, scroll windows, minimize & restore windows, expand branches in tree view, and more. After the drag, DT will even clean up, restoring windows & closing folders you opened. It has support for Odin applications, and a "moving targets" feature. It also allows you to open objects directly from text using drag and drop; access a file or program object's menu from any window it opens. Also featured are DTProgram, a freeware program object enhancement, and a revised DTClip class that combines a clipboard viewer with its d&d equivalent. From VOICE News.

unpaper version 0.3 has been ported (1/1/2008) to OS/2. This is a post-processing tool for scanned sheets of paper, to improve legibility on screen, or improve the quality before performing optical character recognition (OCR).
